Walk through our organic gardens, into the realms and design of Sumba Island. It is hard to describe in words how magical and unusual this house and experience are… Ibuku have masterfully designed and constructed a bamboo version of the typical style of a Sumbanese family home. The structure reaches for the stars in a spectacular peaked roof, that stretches down over the two-story interior in wide sweeping eaves. Sumba House encapsulates the rich culture behind the indigenous tribes of this remote island, who typically live in villages with one family living all together in an open-plan room.
The interior design of this house will transport you to an authentic Sumbanese way of living, surrounded by beautiful hand-woven batik fabrics, baskets and rustic furnishings rarely seen by tourists to Indonesia. Meanwhile you will sleep wonderfully in an enormous double bed, soft white sheets and shower with fluffy towels under glass tiles in your ensuite bathroom. Another amazing feature of this house is the beautiful bamboo ladder up to a second double bed in the top floor and another toilet as well. With the option of adding extra beds, this house is ideal for families and groups of friends, and can accommodate a maximum of six people.
You have a huge private walled garden to enjoy in Sumba House and a wrap around bamboo porch complete with hammocks for lazy afternoons. You can have dinner under the stars if you wish, on your own large stone outdoor dining table. Fall asleep to the sound of a bubbling fountain, and rise with the village cockerels. This is island living at it’s best!
